Huffman, Stewart Honored At Conference Walker Huffman of Nashport and Jennifer Stewart of Zanesville were recently honored during the fall conference of the Southeast Region of the Ohio School Boards Association, held in Albany at Alexander High School on Sept. 25, Huffman received the Advocate of Education Hall of Fame Award. A graduate of Zanesville High School Class of 1943, the retired superintendent, principal, teacher and coach was cited for his outstanding and untiring efforts as an educator from Southeast Ohio. He was recognized as a pioneer in the development of the Muskingum Area Joint Vocational School District (present day Mid-East Career and Technology Centers) and Muskingum Area Technical College (present day Zane State College). Stewart was honored for her service as a member of the State Board of Education of Ohio and was recognized for her support of the Southeast Region of the Association. The former board member from Zanesville City Schools was an active member of the Southeast Region's executive committee prior to being elected to represent District 9 on the State Board of Education. The Southeast Region covers 18 counties with a membership of 16 city districts, five exempted village districts, 48 local districts, nine vocational school districts and eight educational service centers for a total of 86 member boards of education as well as nearly 400 board members and more than 119,000 students.
